As excitement builds for the upcoming WMF World Cup 2025 in Baku, Azerbaijan, we had the opportunity to speak with one of the key figures behind the tournament’s organization — Peter Králik, executive vice president for WMF WORLD CUP 2025 and president of the European Minifootball Federation. In this exclusive interview, he shares insights into the preparations for the tournament, what teams and fans can expect, and why Baku is shaping up to be the perfect host city for the biggest minifootball event in the world.

What can teams and fans expect in terms of facilities and infrastructure in Baku?

The venue is outstanding, brand new, and will undoubtedly attract a large crowd, with expectations for a full house. Players and teams will be accommodated in a hotel right next to the stadium, minimizing travel time between the hotel and the venue. Additionally, teams will have a free day every other day, giving them the opportunity to explore the city center, the boardwalk, local food and immerse themselves in the local culture.

What do you think is the biggest advantage of hosting the World Cup in Baku?

The country's deep love for minifootball is the greatest advantage for hosting the World Cup. Azerbaijan, as the European champion in 2022, will likely have the strongest support imaginable. Baku and the entire country will be fully engaged with the event. The local organizing committee is a highly capable and reliable partner, and with the backing of the Ministry of Sport, they have everything in place to deliver the best minifootball tournament ever. I am proud of the efforts of president Orkhan Mammadov and his team in organizing this event.

3. How do you expect the level of play to compare to previous World Cups? Are there any nations you think could surprise us this year?

Each year, the quality of minifootball improves, both on a global scale and continentally. I am confident we will witness new stars, spectacular goals, and a fantastic atmosphere throughout all 64 matches of the World Cup. Having 32 countries from 4 continents, it’s always exciting to see how different cultures and playing styles come together. I hope the players, national teams, and all spectators will enjoy this fantastic event. Since I am European I am personally excited to see new countries from other continents like Argentina, Uzbekistan and Mauritania, but also watching traditional ones such as Mexico or USA is always a joy. With such a diverse mix of countries, the competition will undoubtedly be intense, and the best European teams will also add an exciting dynamic to the tournament.

With passionate local support and a strong commitment from organizers, the WMF World Cup 2025 promises to be a landmark event in the history of minifootball. As Peter Králik highlights, this tournament will not only showcase elite competition, but also bring together nations and cultures in the spirit of sport.
